look at this in terms of vectors
v=ai+bj+ck
w=xi+yj+zk
we knwo that the dot product is
v.w =ax+by+cz = vw cos θ
take modulus of both sides...
|v.w| = | vw cos θ | <= |v||w| (because of cos θ)
|ax+by+cz|<= |v||w|
|ax+by+cz|<= √|a2+b2+c2||x2+y2+z2|
this is basically the statement of cauchy schwarz.
wewll this is the best way i could ever find anyone explain cauchy schwarz. its a big book altogether but further proceeding requires a knowledge of inner space product, which is not necessary at this point of time.
