HONEY,

u see after 13 follow the line that gies to the left of it and put consecutive numbers in each box.

like after 13 , put 14, then 15 , then 16 ,. so on........ (all these should be put on the blocks that lie on the line)

suppose let us assume it is possible to improve upon the arrangement i showed above.

clearly the diagonal in this question should contain odd numbers, and the largest would have to be atmost 37,once this number is put down , we must remain on the same side of the diagonal.

there are exactly 16 black squares and 12 white squares on each side.

hence the largest number is 37 and only one square on the largely empty side of the diagoal has been filled.

however, there are 13 odd numbers from 38 to 64 , but we atmost 12 white squares to accomodate them.

SO IMPROVING UPON 88 IS IMPOSSIBLE.

hey b555 anuj is correct..........if we consider the diagonal elements......

then it will come in this order.........da

1,10,19,28,37,46,55,64........so we form an AP here...........with 9 as common difference and starting integer 1...........

the sum of the AP

= common difference /2(1st term + final term)

= 8/2 (1+64)

= 4 X 65

= 260

Hope u got it!!!!!!!!!

read the question.

an 8x8 arrya consists of numbers 1,2,3,4,.......,64.

so show me those numbers on your board.

i dono much better english than that.

i could only infer thaat we have all 64 numbers on the board.

i knew most would make this mistake.

try try. no repeatition is allowed

is the answer 204 or 64??......................

1
Honey Arora ·

we are starting from 1 coz we need min sum
thn adding no.'s on diagonals as
1+3+5+7+9+11+13+15=64
