first try to get rid of the | | sign..
for that take two condition.. (whats inside the ||) > 0 then write (whats inside the ||) else -(whats inside the ||)
then take intersection of inequalities in both individual case and then union of both cases..

for x+1/x>0 or x>0
then x+1/x>4 solve this..
take intersection of both regions
case 2:
for x+1/x<0 or x<0
-(x+1/x)<4
