well krish this comes from inclusion exclusion principle which is a bit difficult to understand for a lot of people ...
It is also most unlikely to be a part of IIT JEE syllabus but a part of an Olympiad question. Dont worry if u cant get this one..

Yeah u have essentially used the same principle if i am not wrong
Reqd No of ways =
n! - n(n-1)! + n(n-1)/2 . (n-2)! +.... +(-1)r nCr (n-r)! ...............
Total no of ways =n!
also nCr (n-r)! = n!/r!
Then take the limit of this when n goes to infinity
