ya i sort of got that but in the solution its given f(x) is even coz f(x)=x2-1.why is this necessary??

debanjana..

If your question is "why is f(x) even" then teh answer is because f(x)=f(-x)

If your question is that "why is f(x) = x^2-1" then the answer is it is not.. because if f(x) is given by x^2-1 then it will have a point where it will take an irrational value. Which is not allowed.
