Try doing it with the concept of work - days.
Let x be the no. of days in which the piece of work would be originally finished by 150 workers.
Now, from ques, 150 workers work for 1 day, 146 for the 2nd day, 142 for the 3rd day and so on......
So, this becomes an AP of as 150, 146, 142, ......... and so on with (x + 8) terms.......since the workers will have to work for 8 more days now.
Therefore,
150x = sum of above AP till (x + 2) terms
→ 150x = (x + 8)2 (2*150 + (x + 8 - 1)(-4))
Solve this to get x.
Then, find x + 8.
- Astha Gupta sir...its confusing me a little that y u have multiplied 150 by x so as to get the sum upto x-8 terms..????Upvote·0· Reply ·2013-09-02 12:08:13
think of it in this manner. ...if 10 ppl finish up a work in 5 days, then 1 man would require 10*5 = 50 days to complete the same work
Here too, we evaluate the net work that will be done by 1 person.....
