@ Raja
if u get a rank between 2000-2500 u will get Civil at Roorkee, and even Mech at Guwahti, between 2500-3500 u will get civil at guwahti
after 3500 core branches at IIT's is very difficult
I have been to counseling once last year at IIT B
with an expected jee rank around 2000-4000, what shud I do -?
1) Can I get admission with any good stream in any of the IIT's - (For god-sake leave out the new IITs)
2) Any chance of getting a computer-science course in any iit (including ther new iit's)?
3) Or, shud i drop a yr and prepare for 2011 - keeping in mind the gr8 HRD and the fact that since I'm from state boards, I will not be able to get above 63% in my boards this yr.
Suggestions welcome.

I completely second the statement that there are only two branches in IIT, has felt that in one year only... so go for collg.. but don't be obsessed with departmental changes at least in delhi
Yes, last yr, some ranked 6000 something, and managed a metallurgy branch at kanpur - and as nishant sir puts it, go 4 the iit, rather than the branch, bcoz u can change it after 1 yr.
@ rohit.. see the new IITs need to mature.. IIT is not just plain education.. it is aobut all round development.. The culture of nter all activites dont come over night.. it is a transition of years.. and that is why i am strongly suggesting to take the older IITs
@ Madhu.. Yes they are .. and most easy is IIT Kgp for that.. also, keep in mind that you can take up a minor in other branches... but trust me on this one.. "There are only 2 departments in IIT"
@ nishant bhaiyya........................r dre inter course transitions allowed in iits?
@nishant bro : : but even the new IITS are IITS...n they r under the old ones...so whts the prob with the new ones bro????
@ madhu... in old IITs you will get some of the peripheral course..
I will strongly advice you to go for the college not for the branch..

Yes you could

New IITs i think you should

Dont drop a year.. once you go to IIT you will relaize that ther are only 2 branches... comp sciene and non-comp science.
Suggestions welcome.

this is last year placement list of my coaching centre ....may be this wud give you some idea
u can get MSc maths and Computing in Kanpur at 3500,or MSc physics in kanpur till 3600
Engineering Physics in guwahti till 3400,Agricultural and Food in KGP at 4000,Biotech KGP at 3300
I would advice u to check the branch allotment.
No need of core branches, just tell me if I can get in the top 7 iit's with any subj?
U can get comp. sc. in new IIT's like Punjab.....
Regarding Drop, You'll get a variety of opinions, just do what u feel........
yup..so i wud say..get in2 iit with watever u gt (if ur rank isnt dt gud)......... u hv d chance 2 swap aftr a yr.
@ sridhar - but iit's are a separate brand, if enginering has to be studied, I think no place better than IIT.
Don't worry about your IIT rank. NITs like Warangal, Trichy and Surathkal are equally good if not better. Perform well in AIEEE. Long-term is a risk considering the variation of pattern every year. Also there's BITSAT as well.
raja...u vl get in2 the 7 main iits...bt i dbt wdr u vl gt it a subjct of ur choice...one of my iitkgp frnd told me 2 atleast go 2 7 main iits wid ne subj u gt...work hard 1st yr n then u can swap if u hv a gud gpa...i also fall in d category of 2000-3500
I think comp-science can B done from BHU and IISM-Dhanbaad as well - can't it?
ummm.....thanx.
1 more opinion some of my friends here are giving is to take up any specfic course like maths from some IIT like ROORKEE or madras, what'a ur opinion?
Can I do the same from any of the top 8 iit's with my ranks as stated?
