Two charges +q1 and -q2 are placed at a and b respectively. A line of force emerges from q1(at an angle α with line ab) and terminates at -q2. At what angle will it terminate (β) at -q2 ??

the number of lines emerging from +q1 and confined to theconical region of vertical angle 2α will be the same as those entering –q2 and confined to the conical region of vertical angle 2β.

Also,The ratio number of lines emanating from +q1 in the depicted region, to the total number of lines emanating from +q1 is the ratio of the corresponding solid angles
=> 2π(1-cosα)/4π
=> 1-cosα/2

=> \left| q_{1}\right|(1-cos\alpha )=\left| q_{2}\right|(1-cos\beta )

=>sin(\frac{\beta }{2})=sin(\frac{\alpha }{2})\sqrt{\left| \frac{q1}{q2}\right|}
