all the lines of force from the pt charge are intercepted by this plate ..so.........[4]

nopes..... you are close 2 it.
hint : imagine another infinite plane opposite to the plane mentioned in the question
yaar ,,,i have been in some sort of very stupid dilemna since the last 2 days ! i know that its q/ξ but see how idiotically i have posted it as q/4∩ξ .....i have made a similar mistake in another question from maths posted by tushar......i am going to kick myself now ! hard ! [16] [16]
the answer is q/2ε0
explanation : imagine another infinite plate just opposite to the existing one.
now half of the electric field lines will pass through each plate, hence the
answer is q / 2ε0.
note : there is only a circle of field lines which don't pass from any of the plates , but that
does n't contribute to the flux because of zero area.
oh no .......but all the field lines are intercepted by the plate !!! so how this ?
i think ................its in the same way as v take flux through any one face of cube ..............
Look at another imaginary plane symmetrically placed above the charge as showin in the figure..
all the flux lines will pass through either of the two surfaces
so the flux through the bottom surface is half the total flux
so it is q/2ε0
we can approach this question with solid angles too ....
the semivertex angle → 90
solid angle →2pi(1-0)→2pi
flux is
k*q*solid angle
q/2e ......... simple :(
sorry qwerty.. i thought that no one was solving this one..
@dukhiatma.. i like your aim.. to get a wikipedia page :)
