when is the work done by the battery and when is the work done on it ?? i mean is it when we take charge from higher pot. to lower pot. or the other way out ?? please help ..

1Hi shriya. when a charge passes through a battery from -ve terminal(lower potential) to +ve terminal(higher potential),then work is done by the battery or and viceversa.
