Hints:
1. Calculate the max charge that each capacitor can store
2. When in series, the charge appearing on both capacitors is same.
3. What is the max charge that can appear?
4. Calculate the voltage across each capacitor using V = Q/C
5. Calculate the total voltage across both capacitors.
- Dwijaraj Paul Chowdhury But q1=6
q2=8
Shouldn't q1 be equal to q2 in seriesUpvote·0· Reply ·2013-05-26 04:40:19
- Asish Mahapatra Yes, in series they will be equal. q1 = 6, q2 = 8 simply is the maximum amount of charge that C1 and C2 can store respectively. They can also store less if needed, but cannot store higher than those limits.
- Dwijaraj Paul Chowdhury Okay....so in that case...q shall be 6...nd C=3/2...ans would be 9KV
- Dwijaraj Paul Chowdhury *C=2/3
