we know that the electric field of a straight lamina with zero thickness (i.e. an infinite planar sheet) is

now, surface charge density and epsilon are constants.
this means that " In an infinite planar sheet, electric field does not depend on the distance.".....
but how is that possible???[7][7] after all electric field is actually a sort of force so it should depend on the distance!!!!

It is for an infinite sheet when distance from sheet is much greater than dimension of sheets.But if distance from sheet is comparable to dimension of sheet then the result is not applicable.

i am asking how is that possible??
field is the region of influence, a sort of force... so it should vary with the distance. but how is it possible that in an infinite lamina distance from that sheet has no role to play!!!???
okay, after long pondering over this i think the main prob was that i wasnt able to imagine how big the infinite sheet is.. now adding even few kilometers wont make a difference to infinity, hence, even if we move away from the lamina no net change in its electric field would be felt.....
that was a stupid doubt![36]
