Simple HCV probs...........

1. A thin, metallic spherical shell contains a charge Q on it. A point charge q is placed at the centre of d shell and another charge q1 is placed outside it as shown in d fig. All d three charges are positive. The force on d charge at d centre is....
a) Towards left b) Towards right c)Upward d) Zero

4.

Two metal spheres of capacitances C1 and C2 carry some charges. They are put in contact and then separated. The final charges Q1 and Q2 on them will satisfy.

a) Q1/Q2<C1/C2 b)Q1/Q2=C1/C2 c)Q1/Q2>C1/C2
d) Q1/Q2=C2/C1

4)

is it b)???

2nd one is easy. the vertical capacitor will not have any charge as both the ends are at the same potential. so only 2 are left. both are in parallel. that makes 2c.

yup ........4 is b..............expalnation.................

and 2nd ya even i was confused at first thts y i had asked this....d options are correct if HCV is correct..

4)

let V1=Q1/C1
V2=Q2/C2

WEN THEY R IN CONTACT D POTENTIAL IS EQUAL

SO Q1/C1=Q2/C2

ON REARRANGIN WE GET B)

d charges remain same even after d contact is removed..

if thats hcv`s answer, then u r right. [189]

Dr.House ·

4th one is b because they come to same potential when put into contact

1) is it zero?????????

39
Dr.House ·

if i am not wrong, all the charge put inside a shell comes to its surface.

1
Pavithra Ramamoorthy ·

check dis whether u r sayin dis....

ya ramku almost d same..................but what he is sayin is that ther wudnt be anything inside d shell(thts y d field is zero)..........
yess b555 do continue.......
