An ideal dipole consists of two equal and opposite charges ±Q separated by a distance s. In an ideal dipole s is very small compared to the distances to any other charges and also to any points where we wish to find the resultant electric potential or E-field. However Q is sufficiently large such that the product Qs is finite.............

if i m not wrong an ideal dipole have same & oppsite charged & r separated by small distance & they must be small such tat they donot influence charged distibution on their surface (as charge is place on some thing but my thing is tat it doesnot disturb the charge distibution on themselves)
that was the thing in my mind....
at a very small difference they will change the charge distribution on their surface....
yaar actually by definition if u r correct but if consider the inner aspect then it will change the charge distribution on the surface....
I too have a doubt that's why i asked it.....
I too have to confirm it from u people.....
i think it is of conceptual think but if they r made of non conductor then it might not change if small charge is kept becoz if they have big charge they will got attracted
why charge distribution will change>???????????infact there is no charge distribution....................it is a point charge..............so how would u define charge distribution(linear, areal or in 3d) on it????
a line in X-Y plane is also 3-D & pt. also 3-D if no assumption is taken yaar we cannot neglect it also when discussing ideal nature
a point in 3D will have infinitesimal increments dx,dy,dz..........How would u consider charge distribution on it????
