ELECTROSTATICS VERMA

The electric potential decreases uniformly from 120 V to 80 V as one moves from x= - 1 cm to x= + 1 cm.THE ELECTRIC FIELD AT THE ORIGIN IS :
A)must be = 20V per cm
B)may be = 20V per cm
C)may be greater than 20V per cm
D)may be less than 20V per cm

-ΔVΔx=Ex=20V/cm

now this is the magnitude of only the X component of the existent electric field..

thus the field may be 20V/cm or may be greater

thus b,c

arey dude consider Eo = Ex (i) + Ey (j)

u found Ex = 20 at origin

so at origin Eo = √202+Ey2 ≥ 20 , wich depends on Ey

now dont tell that Ex and Ey cant intersect at origin ,
actually dey r just the components of Eo at origin ,
actual field line at origin is Eo wich is inclined at angle θ= tan-1( EyEx)
