Force on hemisphere


Charge density is different but uniform on both sides of hemisphere.
Find the force exerted on lower by the upper hemisphere.
I need the approach. I have the answer

Read this somewhere...

This question uses the concept of electrostatic pressure.

If a spherical surface is given a charge and has surface charge density σ,

and is flexible then it tries to expand due to the charge supplied. The

sphere behaves as if it is under stress.

The electrostatic pressure is given by σ22ε0

If the charge densities are different,

The electrostatic pressure is given by σ1σ12ε0

Thus, according to the question force
force exerted by the upper hemisphere on the lower hemisphere is
σ1σ1πR22ε0
