the electric field lines will be parallel to only one of the axes (x or y) Which one?

The spacing of the field lines will change...

yes sir,i want to verify,that is field is parallel to the x axiss and the no of lines will increase √y and we wont get field lines
for y<0.

i have dbt how to find whether there is a source or sink in that 2d plane,i thot that it shud be found bcos the field is increasing as we move up along the y axis so there must be a source.I am not sure of this explanation sir,i want corrections

Only in 1St and 2nd Quadrant because Y has to be +ve So parralel to Y-axis
