multiple answer type or straight???
is da ans (c)
Metal X is singing a song for non metal Y
I ate less protons than what u ate,
Our atomic number add upto twenty eight,
WIth AgNO3, our salt forms a precipitate.
Non metal sings back:
Beware this precipitate is black not white,
Rock salt therefore is out of sight,
We join to form a rodenticide.
Q.Which of the following will be a characteristic of salt XY(Rodenticide is rat poison)
(A) Lilac colour in Bunsen Burner.
(B) PH3 evolution with dil. HCl
(C) smell of rotten eggs in moist air.
(D) Component of Soda-lime decarboxylative mixture.
come on dude option [a] can be ruled out immediately as lilac colour is given by poassium and its compounds match nothing of the given information as their atomic numbers add upto 28, others atomic number must be 25 and thats a metal, so we arrive at a absurd result.
coming to option [c] , rotten smell in moist air is given by H2S as far as i know. that means sulphur must be one of the things. then the other element must have an atomic number 28-16=12 that is manesium, and as far as i know they dont give a precipitate with AgNO3
and i dont know about option [d] but when we come to be taking P to be the anion, we get the other atom to be aluminium, and the compound obviously gives a black ppt of Ag3P with AgNO3.
according to me the clue that the atomic numbers add upto 28 is the biggest clue.
and priyam bhai u r intelligent enough to rule out [d]
answer is C.
@ mathematician . well according to your second post . can't AgNo3 give a ppt with H2S ?? or MgS ????what abt Ag2S ???(black)
no srinath they can be ruled out. coming to Ag2S its atomic number is 108, and other displacement reactions dont work under normalcies.
i dont think anyone would heat a reaction mixture to 880 degrees or so just to identify it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its not that what we feel, its what we can reason out, u give me a perfect answer, then i accept.
NO way , what we feel matters , V-Day round the corner. :P:P:P
and it's C . tapanmast should reason it out. if not I'll definitely , but later.
ans is ....AlP....
d biggest clue is d rodenticide part...
metal(Al,Ca,Mg,Zn) phosphides r used as rodenticides... ;)
gud job mathematician!!...
