for any error analysis first take log of the eqn...and then differentiate
In 2006,there was a question in the JEE abt a u - v plot of a lens for finding focal length,the %age error or something similar was asked,how to find it?i have no clue!

1/f=1/v-1/u
diff the eqn to get......
Δf/f2=Δv/v2-Δu/u2
put the given values now.....[1]

well another way: [abhirup has alredy told]
f = uv/ u+v
=> lnf = lnu + ln v - ln(u+v)
differentiating...
=> df/f = du/u + dv/v - d(u+v)/u+v
=> Δf/f = Δu/u + Δv/v - (Δu + Δv)/(u+v)
this is a std method to find error in all places ...
