guys,
a couple of years back, when i attended the Ntse interview they asked me this question for which i openly admitted that i do not know the and
the ques was "what is the reaction between NH3and Mg?"
till this date i dont know the ans!!!!
what is the reaction???

1Mg does not react with dry NH3 gas. But if they meant liquid NH3, then Mg dissolves forming ammoniated ions(violet). Mg+10NH3=[Mg(NH3)6]2++2[e(NH3)2]-. the ammoniated electrons absorb energy in the visible region of light and impart violet colour.
