chlorine !!

though chlorine is a very usefull and strong bleaching agent , yet it can not decolourise an ordinery pencil mark !!! why does chlorine show this peculiar property ??

Chlorine on standing separates to HCl and HOCl, the latter of which causes the bleaching action(because it releases nascent oxygen). It bleaches only organic matter...lead pencil is not organic?

may be that carbon cannot be oxidised by chlorine ..... maybe because of its inertness....

LOL... its' clear that Pritish has grasped NCERT word-by-word.
There was one more line beneath it.
Vegetable Oil + O --> Vegetable Ghee.
As it is said, I suppose it is for organic compounds only.

thnx guys nd hopefully pencil marks r not r organic as it is mainly graphite ppl !!!
