JEE Advanced 2015 Preparation › Mechanics questions › direction of Torque

Mass of the pulley is M.Tension in the rope is T.The radius of the pullry is R.Now the torque due to T is TR; but it is said that this torque will rotate the pulley anti-clockwise and hence it is positive. HOW?

Since anti clockwise..sinÎ¸ will be positive in the first two quadrants...Thus it is positive..[Proved]
