Weight of body=Total upthrust
Q40 A uniform solid cylinder of density 0.8 g/cc floats in equilibrium in a combination of two non-mixing liquids A and B with its axis vertical. The The densities of liquids A and B are 0.7 g/cc and 1.2 g/cc. The height of liquid A is 1.2 cm. The Length of the part of the cylinder immersed in liquid is 0.8 cm. The length of the part of the cylinder in air is
Your Answer: 0.40 cm
Correct Answer: 0.25 cm
solution :
(h+1.2+0.8)Adg=1.2A*0.7*g+0.8A*1.2*g
Can sum1 pl. either giv their own xplanation OR xplain this un!!!

Its a misprint there.......it should be Length of the part of the cylinder immersed in liquid B is 0.8 cm
that to i know, i even kno that the question is quite easy.......
BUt the main DOUBT here is : the bold statement
So wat i gatherd frm it was dat the solid flots only in LIQ. A
so can u pl. confirm ur ans DUDE
BINGO!!!!!
YEAH BOY! THAT WAS EXACTLY WAT I THOT BUT THEN THE QUESTION totaly CHANGES......
NOT exactly......
BUT DUDE density of A is less than Density of B, then A layer will be abov B layer na....
WAT I INTERPRETED WAS dat :
as the length of solid in liquid (total liquid) = 0.8
but 0.8<1.2
so the body flots only in the lighter liquid A
oh yes density vala factor bhool hi gaya....................then i think it is a misprint
