let ice have density and volume of Ï and V respectively.
let the stone have density and volume d(>1) and v respectively.
when the system is floating water displaced=(dv+ÏV)g1.g=dv+ÏV
now ice melts and stone falls!!
ice gives ÏV1=ÏV of water
the stone sinks to displace V vol of water
so new water displaced=ÏV+v of water<ÏV+dv
thus water displaced decreases
and water level falls!!
