a heavy ball of mass 2m moving with velocity u0 collides elastically head on with cradle of three identical balls of mass m as shown.determine velocity of each ball after collision.

I take that the balls 1 2 and 3 are a little apart

Using conservation of momentum and coefficient of restitution,

velocity of ball of mass m/2 is u0/2 leftwards

velocity of ball 1 and 2 will be zero and velocity of ball 3 will be 3u0/2

in total dere will be 6 collisions before d final velocities is reached.........
2m mass body will have velocity v°/18

m1 will have v°/6........

m2 will have 4v°/9.....

m3 will have 4v°/3........

all directions of velocities in forward direction........

first balls 1 an 2 will stop,but d ball 2m will still be moving towards dem...so it will again hit ball 1 and 2 again....think further.,,,

some of your answers are correct .u have got velocity of m2 and m3 right......

m1 velocity -4uo/27
and 2m velocity - uo/27
