Hydrostatic

A cylindrical vessel is filled with equal amounts by weight of water and mercury. The overall height of the two layers is 29.2. Determine the pressure of the liquid at the bottom ? density of hg= 13.6....

i found out the height of the water column is 27.2 and the mercury column is 2 cm....

isn't the pressure at the bottom of the vessel = atmospheric pressure + gauge pressure...

how to go about now??

[ans to the problem is 4cm of hg]

Answer will be 2+27.2/13.6

there will be no atmospheric pressure because the vessel is closed

Had it been open from the top.. there will be atmostpheric pressure too.
