2v/(g + a) = t
2v/t + g =a
A boy is staning in an elevator accelerating upward throws a ball upward with a velocity V.
The ball returns in his hands after a time t.The accelaraion of the lift is :????
Consider the lift as the frame of reference. Let the lift move upwards with an acceleration of a.
The the resultant acceleration in the lift will be (g+a). This the basic concept.
Now use the equation of motion...a = (v-u)/t
Here, initial velocity = v final velocity = 0 acc. = g+a
thus -(g+a) = (0 - v)/T acc. negative since it will act oposite to the direction of the velocity of the body.
on rearranging T = v/(g+a)
The total time taken to reach the thrower will be twice this so t = 2v/(g+a) rearrange again, u'll get a.
It is quite easy to get once you are proficient in the equations, but i've given a looooong xplanation so it'll be clear (i hope).
