A heavy mass m is tied through a pendulum in a railway train moving at a constant speed v. The carriage is brought to rest suddenly by a strong but uniform braking. Can the pendulum travel through 180° so that the taut reaches the vertical.

Why?

Google books has the full set of 200 questions.. but couldnt get hold of the solutions.. So i am having to bank on my instincts (I mean my methods.. cos i have no source to cross check)

i think it cant be achieved,the relative velocity of the ball wrt is v0 opposite to its direction of moving,so it cant complete its circular path.
