the direction of friction is in the backward direction on the front wheel and in the forward direction on the rear wheel !

During paddling, the friction of front tyre is backward and on rear tyre it is in front direction.
Let us first take the case of rear tyre. While paddling the tyre slips backward, so friction is in forward direction.
Now take the case of front tyre, no paddling is being done to the front tyre but a force acts on it. So direction of friction force is in backwward direction.
