Let the mass of the block be m
Then tension in the upper string at equilibrium = m*6 (think why)
Let the tension in the lower spring be T (downward say).
Then mg + T = 6m
=> T = m(6-g)
=> |a| = T/m = |6-g| = 4 m/'s2
