Definitely debatable!!
N-N cud surely mean jus the si ngle bond............
mera to waise bhi galat hai,.... :(
guyz...did any one of u luk at that N-N bond walla question from another direction yesterday...the q. that says which of the following have N-Nbond? the options if i am correct were
N2O N2O3 N2O4 N2O5
many of u must have marked A,B,C...and must have been given rite by the institutes...
what came to my mind when i saw the Q was... the examiner might have been asking specifically for N-N (N single bond N) which happens only in case of B and C and not in case of A where there is N(triple bond)N...
this i found was confusing and shud have been made clear by the paper setters...
i mite be wrong..i mite have acted stupid...plz give ur viewz...

Gordo you have an absolutely correct point..
But I dont know what they will decide..
thnx ppl....thnx sir....but what went thru' the minds of u ppl when u saw it? i mean did u guyz did it ever hit u guyz that therz a possibility of a different pt of view??
well one thing
N-N bond means N-N single bond - the sigma bond but the N=N and N≡N
bonds also contain the sigma bond (1 sigma and 1 and 2 pi respectively)
probably rite rohan..but the thing is when we make damn sure to mension c=c or c-c when we address cc bonds, the same shud go with NN bonds...for the sake of just writing, N-N bond can be interpreted in many ways...i thot it was the duty of the examiner to mention properly what he meant...what interpretation he wanted..so think IITs shud stop playing on this dirty ambiguity element...every year one or the other Q is always there that can be interpreted in 2-3 ways...at the the interpretation of the examiner wins!
what has happened here sadly is that i knew all the structures of the compounds thoroughly, didnt lack in concepts at all, but still loose 5 marks just becoz i wasnt gud enuff to understand what interpretation the damn setter had out of the 2 interpretations...so i'l say IIT has failed to tap the concept of the student in this kind of language usage..
yes you are absolutely right gordo ..
theres always a confsion in a few problems each year .. :(
theyll give marks for both type of ans ( see last year ans key they gvn multiple correct choices for certain ans )
