Although Akashnil stood 2nd in the Indian team, notice he is among the few contestants to have scored points in the last problem which is now being regarded as the toughest problem in the history of the IMO.

I am in awe of the Chinese team in which the topper (IMO No.2) has now scored full points for the second year running. The entire team has won gold medals.

Just have a look at the record of the Chinese team performance over the years. They simply dominate.

yes i also had the same analysisi

akashnil scored 0 in a relatively easy geometry problem

there is also a very good reason for chinese dominance

they have a lot of coaching centres for IMO

its like how we have instis like bansl, fiitjee ,BT for iitjee where lakhs prepare and the competition brings out the best in one

akashnil scoring 0 in a geo problem could only mean he had 104°F fever!

that guy is astonishingly good at geometry

and combinatorics

and inequalities

and number theory

and functional equations

and .... :D

Wanted to share something more about that last problem.

I was reading a discussion about it in mathlinks. Many did say it was the toughest in the 50yr history of the contest. What caught my eye was that a user called Probability 1.01 had already posted a "simple" solution (using induction). Actually he is Alex Zhai from US who scored full points in last year's IMO. Naturally, he was among the few who cud even figure out a method.

It makes my spine tingle to think of the stratospheric levels at which these minds work!
