it forms the diazonium salt , which on addition of water leads to formation of alcohol , 2o and 3o is not possible I think .
It's possible , get 1o alcohol , PCC , then grignard.
Q1 ...Does methylamine (CH3CH2) give alcohol on reaction with HNO2 ?
if not , why ?
Q2... Can we prepare secondary and tertiary alcohols by the action of nitrous acid on primary amines.
if not , why ?
2) I think tertiary alcohol is not possible...
i have to think why!
amine forms an ion by reacting with the acid present.
for example: trimethylamine, you get a trimethylammonium ion, (CH3)3NH+.
Hi RITU, I have corrected first question
