Alkene

1) In a book it is said that in the dehydrohalogenation of alkyl hallide to form alkene, if the alkyl hallide contains only one β-carbon atom then only one alkene is formed. And they have sited this example

CH3
|
CH3-C-Br + alc KOH → CH3-C=CH2 + KBr +H2O
| |
CH3 CH3

But in this tert-butyl bromide how come they are saying that their is only one β-carbon atom.

2) I want to know what is meant by the terms 'more substituted β carbon atoms' and 'less substituted β carbon atoms'.

haha

i think by 1β carbon atom , it means that all those C see the same neighbourhood!!..just a guess

more substituted -> attached with grps other than H

again its a guess, dont fall prey to these definitions..In the paper , u will never get such terms. Dont worry
