19you can simplify as below :
(1) self aldol between two ethanal molecules...but don't heat the product ....not heating means you keep the OH intact
(2)oxidise the secondary alcohol using tri tertiary aluminium butoxide(oppenauer oxidation) so as to obtain the final product !!!
