Q.1) it shud be a)
it represents hoffmann elimination.
its the reaction of quaternary ammonium hydroxide , which is an unstable ion , as + charge is on more electronegative ion i.e. N.
Q1 compound reacts fastest with NaOH
a)(CH3)4N+I-
b)CH3OCH3
c)(CH3)3S+I-
d)(CH3)3C-Cl
Q2
Q.1) it shud be a)
it represents hoffmann elimination.

thx...was confused b/w a and c
btw can u brief anything abt reactivity of c) ??
and plzz help in 2)
dude, think in simple terms.
S is less electronegative than N , thus its +ve power sustaining ability is more than N. thus, its less reactive than species involving N.
Q.2) not sure , but it seems d) from the locations of carbonyl group.
The mechanism goes through a carbocation .
go through this if u wish to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinacol_rearrangement
only cyclic systems provide interest wrt stereochemistry so according to me ans is a,b,c,d.
btw at swaraj could you please post your line of thought?
I mean your approach.
