then cant isopropyll alcohol give iodoform test???????????(secon)
first oxidise alcohol to aldehyde or ketone then if oxidised product contain CH3C=O gp then it will undergo haloform
now check
the halogen taken in haloform reaction oxidises the hydroxy group so we dont have to oxidise it first
But gagar sir, both compounds are primary alcohols, aren't they. So both will answer iodoform/ haloform? [7]
i hv a doubt
can it be done through reducing one carbon(hoffmann bromamide)
& proceed???????????
no arogorn in haloform reaction the heterolytic cleavage of the c-c bod by water is a very imp step and only those carbons having three halogens can show this type of step so in case of ethyl alcohol this thing is posible while in case of n-propyl alcohol it is not possible
and yes both can oxidise
@ gagar i m nt talking about the mechanism i m just giv a general way the find if a compound is givin haloform reaction or not
