double-double bond

what exactly is the reason that can be accounted for the instability of a carbon atom which has two double bonds?

this is the case when the double bonds are adjacent.

the instability is due to the strain on the middle carbon atom.

but if they are conjugated dienes , then it is stable due to resonance.

and if they are isolated dienes , no question arises about the instability.

i dont understand what causes the strain?

It is simple when there are two double bonds these bonds

will try to acquire stability so to do that these bonds break faster than single bonds
thus there will be more strain and this causes them to break

this is not quite a healthy argument !!!(#4)
