What is the hybridisation of Cl in CH3Cl?

Is it sp3 or unhybridised and the C-Cl bond is formed between sp3 orbital of C and p orbital of Cl?

hybridisation comes from BP+LP
here BP=1
LP=3
so BP+LP=4
=> sp3

But whenever v draw the orbital overlap diagrams, lyke for BeCl2 , v draw the unhyb. p-orbital fr Cl, don't we ?

n what's written in NCERT (ClassXI,part-1,117) is this -

Each of the sp hybridised orbital overlaps with the 2p-orbital of chlorine axially & form two Be-Cl Sigma bonds.

hybridisation is a totally hypothetical concept....you are messing it up with the actual overlap of orbitals !!

But Debo, what will be ur one particular ans. fr Asish's Qn - sp3 or unhybridised ?
