@osama....
I didnt ask u the source of the question,so dont need to give those advices
I wanted the source for my info ....
things u r mentioning, r dey giving any result ?
my approach, i hv already given ! and the final product( according to me ) is a three membered cyclic ethoxylate
the carbon oxidation no. changes from +1 to +0
hence it is reduced....so the barium oxide is a reducing agent!!!
as far as i think bariun oxide will oxidise the product after ozonolysis to the alchohol.....because barium oxide is having a oxidation state of +4 which is its highest..so it will come down...
@ aieee,
the above compund (ring compond) looks like a toy rather than a ring compond.
Ha ha ha ha
i feel something fishy abt the answer iitcomin hs given. actually,after d first reaction ethylene oxide( its a ring isomer of acetaldehyde) and dimethyl ketone are formed.( ethylene oxide in the fig.)
.BaO is used as a ethoxylation catalyst for d ethoxylation of ethylene oxide( C2H2O ). but the product is not a cycloalkanol !

Excuse me, there is no reln b/w the source of ques and you / your's answer. Even the questions asked in JEE are not from any book / study materials. Then u can't ask the professors of IIT's during/ after JEE exam "What's the source of the questions........ asked in JEE?? ,....etc,etc" So, u should remain confined to only giving the ans and the understanding of the ques not with the sorce of the ques.
osama...he is asking baout the function of barium oxide..not its name !!! he is not a fool,right!
