iodoform test

Ethanol will be oxidized to the aldehyde[with a methyl group next to the carbonyl group]thus giving a positive test for the iodoform reaction, even though it doesn't form iodoform directly

BUT AN ALDEHYDE DOESN'T ANSWER IODOFORM RIGHT??

for iodoform test a methyl group must be there next to the carbonyl group....nothing else matters
