The desired product is being get by seeing the first step only - abstraction of h, den only dis is being formed.. but this is stable, yeah.. so abstraction should be from terminal carbon's H..

What is decided here finally?

in presence of base, 2,7 2,8 and 2,9 diketo give aldol products where the inner carbon atom reacts.but in case of 2,6 i dont see how four member ring can be major.are u sure?any reason??

a four membered ring can't be more stable thn a six membred one.
