After a lot of consideration with govind for Q1, we decided it will undergo NGP or anchimeric substitution assistance from the double bond(note that water is a poorer nucleophile than the double bond, so NGP can be applied).
Q1: CH2=CH-CH2-CH2-NH2 ---(NaNO2 (aq) + HCl) ---> Major Product.
Identify major product!
Options:
a) CH3-CH(Cl)-CH2-CH2-OH
b) (cyclopropane)-CH2-OH
c) CH2=CH-CH2-CH2-OH
d) CH2=CH-CH(OH)-CH3
Q2: H2O is leaving group D2O is leaving group too.. but is HDO leaving group too?
There was a question of pinaol-pinacolene reaction with two viscinal OH groups.. with multiple answers:
a) H+ b) D+
Here D+ will only work if D(OH) is leaving group.. and answer says both are correct.
