Reducing nature of P+HI

IN ARIHANT in some example in Carboxylic acids, they say that P+HI reduces only hydroxy group if both -COOH and -OH groups are present

is this correct? In alkanes, they have written that P+HI reduces -COOH and have specified nothing regarding -OH group

i had done similiar type of question . i think both groups will be reduced

what they have specified is wrong . both gropus will be reduced.
