there seems to exist soem doubt in the fourth step. da. chcek no.?
synthesise
1) coumarin find the structure here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Coumarin_acsv.svg
2) naphthalene from benzene
3) ethyl benzene in good yield from benzene
4) isopropylbenzene from benzene in one step given propyl chloride and benzene ,and necessary reagents .this one's very easy . but forgive me . couldn't think of many quickly.
some are easy . try them . I'll post the answers later

2 a. benzene+succinic anhydride (wth AlCl3)-------->beta-bezoylpropionic acid
b. +(1. Zn-Hg,HCl 2. SOCl2)--------->gamma-phenylbutanoylchloride
c. +AlCl3------->alpha-tetralone
d. +(1. Zn-Hg,HCl 2. Pd/c)--------->naphthalein
**assuming evry1 knows wat alpha-tetrlone is
seems fine ???
now using the method prepare anthracene (its easier)
wow dude evrytime i see ur post u give the name of a different book
now wat is this sanyal boy never heard bout it
that book is quite famous .Bharti Bhawan publishers . SNSanyal . nice reading . costs around 100rs.
thnkx bro bt i really am fed up of reading fat organic books bt thnx anyways
hehehe , this one's thin , comparatively . quite cheap. b/w it's got nice synthetic tips.
I generally trust foriegn author book as they are based on experimnets not like Indian authors. THay give u the practical insight into the reaction M&B is one of the best .
(1) coumarin synthesis :
(2) benzene + succinic anhydride---->{BF3}----> DEHYDRATING AGENT.....>wolff kishner reduction-----Se , heat !
(3) for good yield....first acylate and then use clemmensen reduction !
