sulphuric acid reacts with the reaction mixture yielding I₂ i think.
SO t is not used.
And also the Sulphuric is strong Dehydrating agent.

becoz u get HSO₄ and KOH

and u wouldnt like them a lot.....

also the dehydration of alcohol?

SO4 2- oxidises I- to I2

so no substitution product results...
