Q1 ans 289.6 units the inverse unit in which the q (K) is given
Q1 The reaction
Cis-Cr(en)2(OH)2+≈Trans-Cr(en)2(OH)2+
where ≈ denotes equilibrium
is first order in both the directions.At 25 C teh eq constant is 0.16 and rate constant k1=3.3*10-4 .In an experiment starting with pure cis form,how long it takes to half the equilibrium amount of the trans isomer being formed
Q2 Age of bottle wine is determined by monitoring tritium level in wine.The activity of tritium is determined to be 8% that of sample of fresh grape juice from smae region from which wine was bottled.How old is wine ??
t1/2 tritium=12.3 yrs
Q3 Semiconducting ,non stoichiometric nickel(II) oxide can be prepared by reaction of stoichiometric compound with oxygen gas.
a)What vol of oxygen at 25C and 2.5atm would be consumed in converting 1kg of NiO to the appropriate amount of Ni0.97O1.00?
b)What mass of semiconductor would be produced ??

eureka this is a q from kinetics
just make a rxn A reversibly gives b type and write the rate of formation of B (net rate ) and solve it like first order eq and express it in form of x (x=B form) and finally put the value of x as it is half the value of B at eq
after doing it your formulae will be
T= ln2/(K1+K2)
now put the values of K1 and K2
NB on first look the formulae looks wrong as K1 and K2 should not be adding up as the more the value of K2 the half life should be more but by the formulae it is less why?? do check out yourself
97 NiO + 3/2 O2 → 100 Ni0.97O
Molecular wt. of NiO = 75g
so number of moles of oxygen required for (97*75)g NiO = 1.5
no. of moles of Oxygen required for 1000g NiO = 1500/(97*75)
=0.2061
Now applying PV= nRT
2.5*V= 0.2061 * 82/1000 * 298
V = 2.01 lt :)
weight of semiconductor formed can be calculated by mass conservation..
1000 +6.4 = 1006.4g
