ethanol + SOCl2 ---> C-C-Cl
take two moles...
do Wurtz..
butane will form...
now halogenate...
remove halogen..
double bond forms..
again add Br2...
then remove Br2 with NaNH2...
butyne will form..
@SKYGIRL WITHOUT TAKING TWO MOLES OF ETHYL CHLORIDE BUTANE WILL NOT BE FORMED BY THE WURTZ .........................................................................................
.................. I HAVE A DOUBT
btw, wat doubt you have.??
we can expand chain by CN substitution but that will add only one C at a time..
so wurtz reaction is best...
ETHANOL....
NOW WE DEHYDEATE TO GET ETHENE....
NOW ADD Br2 or Cl2 watever available [3]
then add NaNH2 .. becomez ethyne.........
now add NaCN .........
ull get
C C- Na+..........
now add ICH2CH3
.......
IT WILL BECOME 1-BUTYNE..........
IF U WANT 2 BUTYNE ADD NaCN as usual and add ICH3 ......
ULL GET PROPYNE .....
NOW ADD NaCN again.....
NOW Na will attach 2 the 1st carbon attom .......
then add ICH3 again ... CH3 will attach itself there ..........
so ull get 2 butyne .......
this way NaCN comes of gr888888 use .......................
wurtz is not dat gud.............
if u wanna go for shorter ways i wud prefer corey house instead of wurtz..........
or i wud prefer organo metallic compounds as well for step up rxns..........
just that i have a grudge against this wurtz guy ........[3]
@sky..
what gaurav probably means is that it requires two moleules to collide and not two moles :)
so even if you take 1 mole of the reactant you will get half a mole of the product :)
oh achha... he meant this...
sry i din understnd then...
now did.... thanx :)
