When it comes to electronic configuration if Cr is an exception then why not carbon?

The electronic transition in Cr takes place because the energy released due to half-orbital stabilization compensates for the energy req. for elec. transition
In carbon the energy req. is far more and not compensated by half-orbital stabilization.
From another view pt.,force on elec. in carbon is much more and it is unable to jump to next orbital.
