Two beakers one containing 20ml of a .05M aqueous solution of a non volatile non electrolyte and the other contains 20ml of .03MNaCl solution , are placed side by side in a closed enclosure.what are the volumes in the two beakers when equilibrium is attained ?
ans: 18.2 in first and 21.8 in second

That means the osmotic pressure shud be same for both the beakers..
millimoles of solute in beaker 1 = 1
miilmoles of solue in beaker 2 = 0.6 *2 = 1.2 (van' hoff factor = 2)
so we have a total volume of 40ml...lets say the volume of beaker 1 at eqilibrium be x..so we have
1/x = 1.2/40-x..
40-x = 1.2x
40 =2.2x
x = 18.18
